Julie Burgess

Julie is a Director and also leads the Wills and Probate Department.  After graduating in Law from the University of Leicester Julie completed her Legal Practice Course at De Montfort University and following formal training qualified as a solicitor in 1996.    She joined Catteralls in 1999 and subsequently progressed through the firm to become a partner.

Julie is a well-known private client solicitor in the Yorkshire region.   She has an excellent reputation in her field. The types of cases she deals with include the following:

• Drafting of Wills (including variation of previous wills) – both those which are relatively straight forward to those which involve a high degree of complexity.
• Inheritance Tax planning.
• Obtaining Grants of Probate and Letters of Administration and subsequently dealing with the administration of estates.
• Advice in relation to the establishing of trusts and associated work.
• Lasting Powers of Attorney
• Court of Protection Applications
• Acting as professional deputy and professional attorney.
• Asset protection and care home fees advice.
• Advice on the implications of gifting property and other assets.
• Conducting property transactions during the administration of an estate or subsequent to asset protection advice.

Julie has an exemplary manner with clients.  She is friendly and approachable and can explain the most complex of matters in a simple way, which clients appreciate. In the earlier part of her career she also practised in Family Law and that background is helpful both from a legal point of view and also in terms of enabling correct and rounded advice to be given sensitively.

In addition to her case work, Julie plays a key part in the management of the firm.   She is particularly keen to ensure that Catteralls stays true to its values of being friendly and approachable towards clients and in providing quality legal services in an accessible way.    Julie is particularly passionate about staff welfare and in ensuring that everyone at the firm is motivated and happy.  She firmly believes that a happy work force results in happy and satisfied clients.
